Helen B. Hoover, 85, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Saturday morning, January 18, 2014 at Menno Haven, where she had been a guest since September. Born April 20, 1928 in St. Thomas, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Catherine Hopkins Bernecker. Mrs. Hoover was a graduate of the former St. Thomas High School and was employed for many years at the former Stanley Company in Chambersburg. She is a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Chambersburg and a former member of Trinity United Church of Christ in St. Thomas where she played the piano for many years. She was a former member of the Chambersburg Garden Club and the Norland Garden Club, and currently was a member of the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary. She had served at one time as President of both the Norland Garden Club and the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary. Her hobbies included playing the harp, tole painting, and other creative hobbies.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert S Hoover, whom she married on October 24, 1948; two sons, Ken S. Hoover and Ralph S. Hoover and wife Donna, all of Florida; a daughter, Lisa L. Hoover Babione of Lititz, PA; six grandchildren, Justin Hoover, Tara Hartman, Samuel Hoover, Timothy Hoover, Carly Babione, and Katie Babione; and a brother, David E. Bernecker and wife Hazel of St Thomas, PA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn E. Bernecker.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Lincoln Cemetery with The Rev. Dr. William H. Harter officiating.
