Helen M. (Hull) Hornbaker, 98, of Chambersburg, passed away November, 8, 2016 at the Shook Home. She was born July 8, 1918 to the late Clyde and Mary Jane (Brindle) Hull, in St. Thomas. Her husband Lester P. Hornbaker, Sr., preceded her in death on June 18, 1977.
Early in her life she was employed at the Woolen Mill in Chambersburg, on Spring Street. She was later employed at Letterkenny in food service, then Corning Glass in Greencastle. She and her husband purchased the Oak Forest store and cabins in St. Thomas in 1968, then opened the Oak Forest Restaurant in 1974 and were the owners/operators until 1978. She was a former member of the United Church of Christ, St. Thomas. Helen was a member of the Norland AARP, where she served as travel coordinator. An avid traveler, she took trips to Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Egypt, Paris, and Hawaii. She enjoyed playing bingo and loved animals.
Helen is survived by two children, Sharon “Sherry” Nansen and husband Donald of Fayetteville, and Lester P. “Sam” Hornbaker and wife Nancy of Chambersburg; three grandchildren, Jeffrey (wife Tina) Hornbaker, Christina (husband Bruce) Foschia, and Michael (wife Bonnie) Rzomp all of Chambersburg; one great grandchild, Hannah Foschia of Chambersburg; and her brother Clyde Hull, Jr. of Summerfield, FL. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Julia, Jake, Bernice, and Adeline.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 11, 2016 in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Shook Home, 55 S 2nd St. Chambersburg, PA or the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd. West, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
