Helen M. Houpt, age 97, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born February 3, 1917 in Clarinda, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Bruce A. and Katherine Kirk Burd.
Mrs. Houpt worked for the Stanley Company for 33 years as a seamstress, retiring in 1970. She was a volunteer for the toy mission for many years, where she made many clothes for dolls. She was a member of Zion Reformed Church and had attended Menno Haven Chapel services. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, taking care of her family, writing cards, and completing coloring books.
Surviving is one sister, Mary Burd Hoover of Altoona, PA and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter S. Houpt and two brothers, Melvin and Robert Burd; and four sisters, Evelyn Parson, Ruth Quamme, Maxine Baker, and Leona Butts.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 11:30 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Jeffrey Diller will officiate. The family will receive friends in the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Zion Reformed Church, 259 S. Main St., Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to Menno Haven, Inc., 2075 Scotland Rd., Chambersburg, PA.
