Helen West Mahon, age 91, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Menno Haven. Born March, 1925, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Helen Matthews West.
Mrs. Mahon was a 1943 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. She had attended business school and went to work for the Department of the Army then Health and Human Services, and retiring in 1990 after 33 years of Public and Private Service. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Mrs. Mahon was involved in politics throughout her adult life. She traveled to Europe and the Far East but found the greatest enjoyment at Rehoboth Beach DE…with her toes in the sand. She enjoyed watching the Sound of Music, her sit-coms and music of all types.
Surviving is her son, Tom Mackin residing currently in Yakima WA; nieces Lorna Johnson, Linda Schoenleber (husband Rich), Ann Welsh, nephews Tom, Pete, Pat and Mike West, John Kadel and Sam Harshberger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Mahon in 1992 and daughter, Sharon Quinn in 2013. She was the surviving sibling of the West family- Tom, Francis, Harold, and Margaret.
Funeral services are private and entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Doctors without Borders.
