Helen Rife

August 19, 1925 — January 30, 2014

Helen Arlene Bollman Rife, age 88 ½ ,of Chambersburg, PA, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 19, 1925 in Hopewell, PA, she was a daughter of the late John R. and Bessie P. Hinish Bollman. A graduate of the Broad Top High School, she was employed during the 40’s in the Post Engineer’s Office at Letterkenny Army Depot. She had worked at the former Silver’s Country Corner in downtown Chambersburg and as a Lab Technician at Shira’s Orthdontics. She retired from Bon-Ton (formerly Eyerly’s Department Store) in 1985. After retiring she was a dedicated volunteer for thirteen years at the Chambersburg Hospital Information Desk. She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church where she was a member of the Golden Links Sunday School Class and she was also a member of the Chambersburg Area Hospital Auxiliary. Her husband of 57 years, Lawrence R. Rife, Jr., whom she married in 1945, preceded her in death on November 3, 2002.

She is survived by three children, Carol A. (wife of the late Maurice) Widney of Waynesboro, Roxana (wife of Fred) Zullinger of Mechanicsburg, and Lawrence R. Rife, III (husband of Patty Baker) of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren, Leisl, Tara, Todd, Chad, Jocelyn, Lawrence IV, and Justin; and seven great-grandchildren, Mitchel, Nathan, Zachary, Dillon, Lexi, Araella, Judah, and Selah. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta Lorance and Geraldine Harrison.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 2, 2014 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Paul B. Baker and Rev. Clinton F. Bingaman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Private interment will be at Norland Cemetery.
