Helen B. Rife, 98, of Chambersburg, passed away Monday morning, May 9, 2016 at Menno Haven. Born April 8, 1918 in Edenville, PA she was a daughter of the late W. Frank and Annie M. Reigle Shetron. Her beloved husband, Donald E. Rife, preceded her in death in 1960.
Helen was employed at the Stanley Co. from 1939 – 44, H. J. Heinz Co. from 1944 – 47, the Chambersburg School District at Faust Junior High from 1960 – 66, and most recently Rite Aid Pharmacy for 23 years until her retirement in 1990. She was an active member of King Street Church, the Buds of Promise Sunday School class, the Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, the Jolly 60’s, the United Towers Home Association, and the Golden Age Club. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, cooking, and making welcome gifts for new residents at the Towers at Falling Spring. She also enjoyed watching baseball and golf and listening to church services on the radio.
Helen is survived by two children, Gerald L. Rife of Mountville, PA, and Sharon L. Dickson and husband Wayne of Bend, OR; one granddaughter, Rachel Frank of Bend OR; and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Ruby Frank. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her grandson, Travis Koon; and six siblings, Ralph Shetron, Mary Hawk, Edna Ferry, Daniel Shetron, Alice Thrush, and John Shetron.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 14, 2016 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Fallings Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Lester F. Stine and Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Interment will follow the service in St. Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday evening and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
