Helen H. Shrader, 90, a resident at Penn Hall Nursing Center in Chambersburg and formerly of St. Thomas, went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, August 14, 2015 after a brief illness. Born December 17, 1924 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Mary L. Baughman Haas. Helen was a 1942 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and a 1943 graduate of the former Chambersburg Business School. She was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot for seven years before becoming a full-time wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a member of Zion Reformed United Church of Christ in Chambersburg. An avid animal lover, Helen enjoyed watching football and classic movies, reading, cooking, writing in her daily journal, and traveling. She had traveled extensively throughout the United States and enjoyed RV camping. She and her late husband, Dick, raised Appaloosa horses for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol L. Shrader of St. Thomas; her grandson, Jason R. Shrader of Shippensburg; a granddaughter, Emily M. Spencer and husband Josh of Chambersburg; two great-granddaughters, Kierstin and Alexis Shrader, a great-grandson, Reese Spencer and step-great-granddaughter, Madison Spencer; her daughter-in-law, Cynthia A. Shrader; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Richard R. Shrader; her son, David R. Shrader; and two brothers, Joe E. Haas and Charles R. Haas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 19, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Jeffrey Diller will officiate. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
