Helen M. Sluser, age 92, of Chambersburg, passed away at 8:20 AM on Friday, May 13, 2011 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born on April 4, 1919 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Norval Furry and Fannie Short Furry. She was the widow of John F. Sluser, who preceded her in death on July 18, 1977. A longtime resident of N. Franklin Street in Chambersburg, she spent the last two years in the Shook Home. A former member of Chambersburg Bible Church, Helen quietly centered her life around loving and caring for her family, all of whom greatly cherished her sugar cookies each Christmas.
She is survived by two children, Barbara Lahr (and husband, Larry) and John Sluser (and fiancée, Wendy Bayer), all of Chambersburg; nine grandchildren, Cindi, Chris, Tucker, Molly, Dana, John, Jeremy, Heidi, and Stephanie; fourteen great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. Aside from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Cormany; two brothers, and two sisters. She was the last living member of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, May 19, 2011 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, with Rev. Dr. William H. Harter presiding. The family will welcome friends in the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity on one’s own choice.
