Helen M. Small, 87, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 28, 1935 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Daisy (Guyer) Etter, and widow of the late Jack K. Small, who preceded her in death on January 22, 2013.
Helen was employed as a seamstress at J. Schoeneman Company for 24 years. Then Helen and Jack entered the restaurant business, as the owners and operators of Jack’s Café in Greencastle, until their retirement in 1992. Helen’s parents instilled in her the value and importance of treating her family with care and graciousness. She loved having her children and grandchildren over to her house to swim and have picnics. She enjoyed the outdoors; swimming, gardening, bird watching and doing yard work. Helen also liked searching for bargains at yard sales and antique markets. Over the years she developed a love for animals of all kinds.
Surviving are Helen’s children, Patrice Greenblatt and husband Stephen, of Brooklyn, NY; Jamie Bowers and wife Debbi, of Chambersburg; Kellie Cooper and husband David, of Chambersburg; Dena Kuksuk and husband Michael, of AZ; Michelle Small of AZ; and eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Aside from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three siblings; Nyle “Bud” Guyer, Doris Truett and Shirley Ankney.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 21, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, where Pastor John Davis will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
