Helen J. Smith, 94, a resident of The Shook Home since 2018 and formerly of Blanchard Avenue in Chambersburg went to be with her Heavenly Father on March 27, 2022 at the nursing home. Born October 20, 1927 in Alexandria, PA, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Sarah (Cisney) Swan. Her husband of almost 57 years, Thomas C. Smith, whom she married June 30, 1945, preceded her in death on May 23, 2002. Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Mary Daugherty, Betty (Simpson) Plyler, and Martha Everhart; and three brothers, Paul Swan, Ralph Swan, and Jay Swan.
Helen was a homemaker most of her life and gave an abundance of sacrificial love caring for her family and loving her grandchildren. She was a member of The Open Door Church and loved attending the Jolly Sixties.
She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Smith and husband Donald of Chambersburg, Sandra Farner and husband Bennett of Fayetteville, and Melinda Redding and husband Joseph of Howell, NJ; one son, Michael Smith of Ormond Beach, FL; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 31, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Mike Sanders and Rev. Carl McKee will officiate. Private interment at Norland Cemetery will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until services begin at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the funeral home.
