Henry Betz

Henry V. Betz, age 94, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born in Jersey City, NJ on June 5, 1922, he was the son of the late Henry and Lillian Vollmer Betz.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Betz served honorably during WWII from 1942 – 1946. Mr. Betz earned both his Bachelor’s and his Master’s degree from Newark College of Engineering. He worked as a mechanical engineer for a number of years, retiring in 1973 from Letterkenny Army Depot. Mr. Betz was a member of the VFW Post 1599, George Washington Lodge #143 F. & A.M., The Shrine, The Chambersburg evening Kiwanis Club, American Radio Relay League, Conococheague Audubon Society, and the Cumberland Valley Philatelic Society. Mr. Betz enjoyed photography, birding, painting amateur radio, and antiques.
Surviving is his son, Henry P. Betz of Conowingo, MD; granddaughter, Emily V. Short (husband Robert) of Landenberg, PA; and great – granddaughter, Anastasia Rowen Short. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rowena Powell Betz on November 10, 2009.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Murray Stevens will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in the Presbyterian Church of the Falling Spring Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW honor guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Kiwanis Club of Chambersburg Foundation, c/o William Feasley, 637 Greenfield Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
