Herbert Franklin

Herbert L. Franklin, 81, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away Friday morning, October 28, 2011 at his home. Born May 23, 1930 in Reading, PA, he was a son of the late Martin N. and Anna Mitchell Franklin. A graduate of the former Kutztown State College (now Kutztown University), Mr. Franklin served in the US Navy from 1948-1952 and the US Air Force from 1954-1958. Following his discharge from the military, he was employed with the Department of Defense and the Department of the Interior. He retired from the US Department of Energy where he was employed as a Petroleum Information Analyst. Mr. Franklin attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kari Helene Gammelsrod Franklin, whom he married July 31, 1965; three children, Eric L. Franklin and wife Karen of Manassas, VA, Christine M. Perry-Sulpizio of Fairfax, VA, and Steven A. Franklin and wife Tracie of Gainesville, VA; and seven grandchildren, Ian, Annikka, Andrew, Michael, David, Molly, and Caitlin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 150 Norlo Drive, Fayetteville, PA. Rev. Clyde H. Deshong, III will officiate. Friends will be received immediately following the service at the church. Private interment will be at Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 384 Floral Avenue or the American Red Cross, 25 Penncraft Avenue #A, both in Chambersburg, PA 17201, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
