Howard K. "Hud" Hawkesworth

Howard (Hud) K. Hawkesworth, age 95, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 26, 1929, in Springfield, Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Alexander Keith and Minnie Pearsall Hawkesworth.

Mr. Hawkesworth served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1947-1950 and in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1950-1953. Howard worked as a pipefitter most of his career, working at Kottcamp Construction from 1962 – 1985 and then as a Project Manager for James Craft from 1985 – 1995, when he retired. He was a member of the VFW Post 1599 in Chambersburg, a former member of the American Rose Society and the South Penn Area Rose Society. He and his wife attended Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Chambersburg. An adventurous spirit, he always had a project in the works, constantly stayed busy, and he even went zip lining at age 94. His most cherished time was spent with family and caring for his wife.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 74 years, Cleone A. Martin Hawkesworth, whom he married on December 30, 1950; four loving children, Keith M. Hawkesworth (Susan) of The Villages, FL; Kimberly H. Spittler (John) of Chambersburg, PA; Joellen H. Lugin (Nick) of Westerville, OH; and Susan B. Hawkesworth (Gary Gettel) of Chambersburg, PA; ten grandchildren, Kristen Spittler (Daniel Crowley), Jennifer Varner (Matthew), Matthew Spittler (Amy), Natalie Bixler(Joshua), Kara Hawkesworth (Nick Sallack), Caroline Robson (Paul), Kendra Fortin (Chris), Lauren Jefferson (Justin), Joshua Hawkesworth, and Jacob Hawkesworth; 22 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings. Howard was a devoted husband. He was loved and adored by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. He sacrificed much in order to give to others. He was well respected in his community and by those of his trade.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 1 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, where Rev. Jeff McCracken and Tom Defenderfer will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 230 Siloam Rd, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
