Hulda G. Cordell Russell, age 100, passed away peacefully at Chambers Pointe Nursing Center, Chambersburg, PA on July 10, 2021. Born September 5, 1920 in Oakville, Cumberland County, PA, Hulda was the daughter of the late Roy W. and Elsie Clever Cordell.
Hulda graduated from Quincy High School in 1939. It was there that Hulda met her beloved husband of over 62 years, Winford Vane Russell. They were wed on April 25, 1944, while Winford was on leave from the Navy during World War II.
Hulda was employed at the Stanley Company in Chambersburg and later at the Village Market in Marion. She was a faithful member of Marion First United Methodist Church, Marion for most of her life.
Hulda enjoyed flower gardening, traveling, and being physically active, which she credited for her longevity. She and her husband were active Mall Walkers for many years and even in her later years at Chambers Pointe she was known for roaming the halls on long walks, greeting friends and making new ones. Her greatest joy was time spent with family, and she cherished every moment watching her grandchildren grow up. She was a true people person who made friends everywhere she went.
Hulda is survived by one daughter, Brenda M (and husband, Dick) Horst of Ellicott City, MD, two grandchildren, William Russell Horst, married to Danae and living in Pasadena, CA, and Megan Nicole Horst McCann, married to Tim and living in Briarcliff Manor, NY, as well as three great-grandchildren, Audrey, Colin, and Aidan McCann of Briarcliff Manor, NY and one brother, Donald Cordell of Greencastle, PA. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son, William Dean Russell, two sisters, Anna Gearhart Freet and Fay Hoke, three brothers, Clifford, Herbert, and Ross Cordell, and numerous dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Marion First United Methodist Church, 94 Colorado St. Marion, PA, following burial at 9:00 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, PA. A visitation will be held the night before, Wednesday, July 14, 6:00- 8:00 p.m, at the Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Marion First United Methodist Church, PO Box 382, Marion, PA 17235. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L.
