I. Mae Seylar, 94, of Chambersburg, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday morning, April 15, 2022, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 11, 1927, in Five Forks, she was a daughter of the late Walter Scott and Mattie Fern Martin Hoover. Mae was a 1945 graduate of Quincy High School. She was a member of Air Hill Brethren In Christ Church and her hobbies included oil painting, cooking, and baking, but her most cherished time was spent with her family. In her earlier years, Mae was involved with 4-H and T.O.P.S. Throughout her life, Mae worked at Hess Brothers Orchard, the former Stanley Company, Pennsylvania Apple Packers, Uptown Sales in the toy department, and Brother’s Shoes.
Mae is survived by the love of her life and husband of 72 years, Ralph Elwood Seylar, whom she married September 21, 1949; three children, Donna J. Wengert (Donald), James L. “Jim” Seylar (Barb), Joyce S. Blackford (Jerry), and her daughter-in-law, Penny Seylar all of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren, Amanda Imwald (Mike), Denise Bernecker (Stephen), Alison Wengert, Travis Seylar (Sarah), Tracey Jackson (Kyle), Cody Reed (Jen), Stephen Seylar (Katrina), and Jodi Affleck (Matt); and nineteen great-grandchildren. Mae is also survived by two brothers, Richard Hoover and Dean Hoover (Pat) and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by a son, Jerry E. Seylar, and nine siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Air Hill Brethren In Christ Church, 7041 Cumberland Highway, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. John Melhorn will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the church.
