Ida Shaffer

November 11, 1919 — February 2, 2012

Ida Alice Reath Shaffer, 92, a resident at the Shook Home, passed away Thursday, February 02, 2012 at the nursing home. Born November 11, 1919 in Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Stella Horn Reath. Ida worked as a seamstress for many years at the former Stanley Company and was last employed as a cook at the former Scotland School for Veteran’s Children. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church. Her husband, O. Ray Shaffer, preceded her in death on September 5, 1991.

She is survived by her daughter, Doris J. Newman and husband Roy of Orrtanna; four grandchildren, Brian Newman and wife Lori of Chambersburg, Rhonda Mickey and husband Craig of Indiana, Deena Houp and husband Rick of Chambersburg, and Darla Strite and husband Michael of Georgia; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Helen Robinson and Edna Mooney, both of Chambersburg, Nellie Brookens of Vero Beach, FL, and Alma Collins of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Clarence; and five sisters, Ethel, Annie, Velva, Clara, and Grace.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 5, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Garry Culler will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday and one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
