Irene L. Gearhart, 78, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 26, 2016 at Quincy Village. Born July 5, 1937 in Hancock, MD, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Mabel Younker Weller.
Irene was employed as an LPN at the former Franklin County Home for the Aging, and later at Shook Home until her retirement. She was a member of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed working puzzles.
Irene is survived by her husband of 47 years, Harry Gearhart, whom she married on September 3, 1968; three children, Harry “Doc” Gearhart (wife Robin) of Florence, MT, Mike Sanders (wife Barbara) of Fayetteville, and MSG Troy Gearhart (wife Breese) of Chambersburg; six grandchildren, Heather Schisler (husband Michael) of Fayetteville, Natasha Gearhart of WA, and McKenna Peters-Gearhart, Mason Peters-Gearhart, Cameron Gearhart and Tyler Gearhart, all of Chambersburg; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Brooke and Gavin; and a sister, Vanetta Reed of Hancock, MD. In addition to her parents, Irene is preceded in death by her sister, Inez Younker.
A funeral service to honor Irene’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 29, 2016 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor Trisha Brandt will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM prior to the service.
