Irmgard Weiss

October 17, 1925 — March 30, 2018

Irmgard Weiss, age 92, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, March 30, 2018, at the home of her daughter. Irmgard was born in Hamburg, Germany, on October 17, 1925, to Karl and Wilhelmina (Olthoff) Jacobs arriving in the United States at age 4 months through Ellis Island.
She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, MD. She worked for many years in the textile industry in New Jersey. She enjoyed time spent with her family, travel, reading, and was an expert at solving cryptogram puzzles. She was an avid knitter who made a few hundred Afghans, shawls, and lap robes for RSVP in Madison, WI and for her church. And she especially enjoyed her time as a Foster Grandmother in the Fort Dodge, IA school system. Everyone she met became an instant friend. She was loved and will be missed by many.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Rev. William) Pekari , Chambersburg, PA; grandsons, Rev. Randall (Jessemyn) Pekari, South Windsor, CT and Rev. Dr. Jeremy (Rachel) Pekari, Peabody, MA; great- grandchildren, Noah, Joseph, Nathaniel, Gabriel, Joshua, Elijah, Mia, Violet, and Levi Pekari; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ralph R. Weiss, her parents, and her brother, Hans Jacobs.
A service celebrating the Lord’s faithfulness to Irmgard Weiss will take place at Concordia Lutheran Church, 17906 Garden Lane, Hagerstown, MD on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., where Rev. Joe E. Schruhl and the Rev. Dr. Jeremy R. Pekari will officiate. Visitation prior to the service in the church narthex will be between 12:00 and 1:00. Interment will take place at a later date at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge, IA. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spiritrust Lutheran Home Care and Hospice at 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202 or to LWML (Lutheran Women in Mission) 3558 South Jefferson Ave, Saint Louis, MO 63118.
