Irvene "Jake" Yeager

October 25, 1932 — January 18, 2017

Irvene M. “Jake” Yeager, 84, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born October 25, 1932, in St. Thomas, he was a son of the late Merle David and Louise Elizabeth Leininger Yeager.

A U.S. Army veteran, Jake served honorably during the Korean Conflict. Following his service he was employed as a Greyhound bus driver. He was later employed as a mechanic for Grove Manufacturing for 18 years, a security guard at the Chambersburg Hospital and most recently as a mechanic at Letterkenny Army Depot. Jake was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church. He was a handyman and could fix anything. An avid outdoorsman, Jake enjoyed hunting, spending time in the mountain, camping and boating. He also enjoyed going to sales.

Jake is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy L. Daley Yeager, whom he married on October 31, 1964; two daughters, Kelly Harmon and husband Richard of Fayetteville, and Jill McNew of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Paige Seilhamer, Cameron Seilhamer, and Riley Harmon, all of Fayetteville and Amber McNew of Chambersburg; and two siblings, Robert Yeager and wife Joann of Ft. Loudon and Janet Wingert and husband Herbert “Butch” of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill, Merle, David, and Donald Yeager; and two sisters, Betty Gayman and Bernice Swanger.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 23, 2017, at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 1140 Edgar Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201. Pastor Rachel Wong will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens where military graveside honors will be provided by members of the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday evening from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to the United Methodist Home for Children, Inc., 5120 Simpson Ferry Rd, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050.
