Isiah Nelson Petit, 77, of Scotland, PA, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. Born December 6, 1946 in Huntington, WV, he was the son of the late Bernard Jennings Petit and Lucy Mae Burke Rivers.
Following his high school graduation, Nelson served honorably in the US Marine Corps from 1966-70. He served in Vietnam where he was awarded Purple Heart with two stars, having been wounded three times in service to his country. He was employed as a maintenance engineer for 36 years at the Chambersburg Hospital until his retirement. Nelson served as a Boy Scout leader, belonged to the 3rd Pennsylvania Dismounted Cavalry Civil War Reenactors Unit and enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. He was a member of Scotland Fellowship Church, and a life member of VFW Post 1599 and Marine Corps League Landis-McCleaf Detachment.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eileen A. Kochert Petit, whom he married on August 24, 1968; three children, David N. Petit (Heather) of Bedford, Michael A. Petit, (Amy) of Fayetteville, and Kristina M. Gallagher (Robert) of Westminster, MD; three grandchildren, Jalena Piper (Brett) of Fayetteville, Anna Moore (James) of Concord, and Jacob Petit (Shyanne) of Dry Run; two great grandchildren, Layne Allan Moore and Weston Lee Smith; half-sister, Christina; and four nieces and nephews, Tom Beard, Doug Beard, Deb Smith and Vicki Bell. Aside from his parents, Nelson was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Sue Barnett.
The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, May 17, 2024 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Interment in Parklawns Memorial Gardens will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 2705 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17202 or to the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home, 138 Veterans Boulevard, Duncansville, PA 16635.
