J. Louise “Blondie” Brookens, age 85, of 313 South Sixth Street, Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born September 4, 1926, in Chambersburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late Nelson W. and Carrie E. (Thomas) Foreman. She attended Chambersburg High School, Class of 1944. Blondie worked at the Stanley Clothing Company and Tracey Fashions for 14 years. She also worked at the Chambersburg Area School District for 22 years and retired in 1998.
She is survived by her only son, Jeffrey L. Brookens and wife Kimberly S. of Chambersburg. Also surviving is one granddaughter, Tiffini J. Brookens (husband Jeffrey E. Platt) of Frederick, Maryland; and one sister, Anna Belle (Foreman) Statler of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ellis H. Brookens on May 18, 2006; and one sister, Doris J. (Foreman) Glass.
Blondie was an avid bowler and a member of the Lincoln Lanes, Nellie Fox, and Park Lanes Bowling Leagues. She especially enjoyed traveling with the bowling team to bowling tournaments throughout the country. She also liked to decorate for various occasions, complete crossword puzzles, and watch golf.
The family will receive family and friends at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road on Friday, January 6, 2012 from 6 – 9 PM. Interment will be private.
