J. Clifford “Cliff” Harry, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born in Amberson, PA on December 5, 1933, he was a son of the late Russell K. and Mabel A. Bock Harry and step-son, of the late Chloe Harry.
A 1951 graduate of Fannett-Metal High School, Cliff continued his education at Williamsport Tech, where he also graduated. Upon graduation, Cliff owned and operated Valley View Auto Repair, and then went to work at Automotive Supply Company of Chambersburg, where he would retire in 1991 after 30+ years of service. Not one to be idle, Cliff quickly began working part-time at Horst Tractor Repair. He also volunteered at the Chambersburg Hospital, he managed the soda stand at the Marion Festival, worked the Bingo games at the Marion Volunteer Fire Company, and mowed the Marion ball fields for 27 years. He was a member of the Marion United Methodist Church for 51 years, the Kauffman Ruritan, Moose Lodge #842, life member of the Marion Volunteer Fire Company, and the Whirly Bird Square Dance Club. Cliff was also affectionately known as “the Candy Man, Santa Claus and Pap” by many; in his spare time he was an avid antique tractor puller and enjoyed annual trips to Pigeon Forge.
Surviving is his loving wife of 51 years, Anna Karen McKenzie Harry, whom he married on June 24, 1967; three children, Cindy Scanzello (husband Mark) of Chambersburg, PA, Dale Bingaman (wife Patty) of Elkhart, IN, and Brenda Travers (husband Dennis) of Chambersburg PA; eight grandchildren, Jake Myers (wife Racheal), Jennifer Horst (husband Darin), Leanne Costello (husband William), Landon Oliver (wife Megan), McKenzie Winklbauer, Morgan Winklbauer, Michael Johnson, and Charlie Scanzello (wife Abbigal); five great-grandchildren, Laken, Daulton, Billy, Brock, and Dylan; a brother, Glen Harry of Newville, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and step mother, Cliff was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Myers and siblings, Fred and Raymond Harry and Vivian Cloudis.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at 2 PM at the Marion United Methodist Church, 94 Colorado St, Marion, PA 17235, where Pastor Brent Stouffer will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 1, 2018, from 6 – 8 PM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202 and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service in Grindstone Hill Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the above church and address.
