Jack O. Bowen, age 92, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Chambersburg. Born July 22, 1926, in Bressler, PA, he was the son of the late Maurice and Esther Frantz Bowen.
A 1944 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mr. Bowen went on to serve honorably in the U. S. Army during WWII. He worked at the former Heinz Company in Chambersburg, Letterkenny Army Depot, where he retired in 1982, and Midstates Distributors. He owned and operated Bowen’s Rototiller Service. He was a member of Solomon’s Lutheran Church, New Franklin and Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Companies, the Salvation Army, and numerous other community organizations. Mr. Bowen enjoyed Penn State Football, traveling, model railroads, and coin collecting.
Surviving are three children, Dave Bowen of Chambersburg, Denise Bowen of Chambersburg, and Bill Bowen (wife Milisa) of Newburg, PA; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Bowen of Chambersburg; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, John Bowen (wife Kathy) of Camp Hill, PA; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred Baker Bowen in 1991 and a son, Jim.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Pastor Bill Nienstedt will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 16 from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where Military Honors will be rendered by member of the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 1955 Raystown Rd. B., Huntingdon, PA 16662 or to the Salvation Army, 159 L.W.W., Chambersburg, PA 17201, or to Solomon’s Lutheran Church, 4856 Wayne Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202.
