Jack M. Brookens, 82, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015 at his home. Born October 7, 1932 in Fayetteville, PA, he was a son of the late John and Phoebe McNew Brookens. His first wife, Mary L. Fraker Brookens, preceded him in death in 1978.
A U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force veteran, Jack served honorably during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a Tool Handler at Mack Truck in Hagerstown until his retirement in 1991 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 6168 in Shippensburg and the Moose Lodge 842 in Chambersburg. Jack enjoyed watching NASCAR, working on old cars, Hunting, and traveling to Myrtle Beach.
Jack is survived by his wife, Edith M. Marlin Brookens, whom he married on July 15, 1983; a daughter, Amy Burghard (Bernard) of Chambersburg; a step-daughter, Linda L. Beard (Richard L., Sr.) of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Ryan Knox of PA, and James “J.C.” Burghard of Chambersburg; two step grandchildren, Richard L. Beard, Jr. (Christina) of Chambersburg and Mary Beth Knepper (Harry) of Chambersburg; three step great-grandchildren, Aaron James Beard, Sara Elizabeth Beard, and Wyatt Benjamin Knepper; a brother, Garnet (Sharon) of Chambersburg; and four sisters, Gladys Kniesly of Sinnemahoning, PA, Ruby Wenger of St.Thomas, PA, Joyce Dehart of Fayetteville, and Dixie Simpson of Chambersburg. Aside from his wife and parents, Jack was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
A funeral service in honor of Jack’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Garry Culler will officiate. Interment with military honors provided by members of the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will follow the service in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 31, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
