Jack Geisel

Mr. Jack H. Geisel, Sr., 88, of Quaker Valley Road, Alum Bank, died at 12:38 AM, Sunday, January 20th, 2013 at the home where he was born on Wednesday, September 10, 1924. He was the son of the late Vernon G. and Sue E. (Barefoot) Geisel.

On June 30, 1947, he married Betty J. (Claycomb) Geisel. In addition to his wife he is survived by Son- Jack H. Geisel, Jr. husband of Sandra (Parkinson) Geisel, Schellsburg; Son- Thomas L. husband of Kay (Jefferis) Geisel, Chambersburg; Daughter- Linda L. wife of Jeffrey Winegardner, Schellsburg. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Pamela Styer wife of Rusty Styer, Thomas Geisel, II husband of Nicki (Shively), Jessica Carbaugh wife of Phillip Carbaugh, Abigail Geisel and fiance, Christian Santos, Gisele College wife of JesseCollege and Adam Winegardner husband of Kelly (Fisher); six great grandchildren, Justin Styer, Jarrod Styer, Jacob Styer, Atlee Geisel, Jack Geisel and Jack College; four step grandchildren, Tommy Riffle, Sean Riffle, Katie Boryan and Steve Hershberger and three step great grandchildren, Gabrielle & Geonna Riffle and Kamden Hershberger

He was preceded in death by four brothers, an infant, Robert, Fred Geisel, Dick Geisel and Louis Geisel and by a sister, Mary Jane Whetstone

Jack was a lifetime member of the Alum Bank United Methodist Church, where he was formerly a member of the choir and sang with the Men's Quartet. He was a 1942 graduate of Pleasantville High School and a 1943 graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.

Jack served in the US Army during W.W.II with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division. His unit served at Normandy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland and Germany, receiving four bronze stars.

Jack was a funeral director for 66 years, the fourth in a family of ten funeral directors. He also served the community for over 22 years with the Bedford County Coroner's Office. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Coroners Association, the Bedford American Legion Post #113 and the Pleasantville VFW Post #9219. Jack was the last charter member of the Chestnut Ridge Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was also a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #320 F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory and the Jaffa Shrine Temple in Altoona.

A Funeral Service will be held at Jack H. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., 4340 Quaker Valley Road, Alum Bank, PA 15521 at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013 with Rev. David Zona & Rev. Thomas Strandburg officiating.

Interment will be held at Fishertown Cemetery.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home in Alum Bank.
