Jack Polk

August 13, 1938 — May 25, 2017

Mr. Jack T. Polk, 78 years of age, formerly of Newville, PA, passed away on May 25, 2017. Mr. Polk was preceded in death by his parents, McKean E. and Mary Gladys Polk of Shippensburg, PA, sister, JoAnne Etter of St. Thomas, PA, and brother, Sherwood M. Polk of Chambersburg, PA. Mr. Polk is survived by his wife, the former Beverly J. Myers and two daughters, Dr. Monica Polk of Salt Lake City, UT, and Dr. Alexa Schmitt of Spokane, WA.

Mr. Polk graduated from Shippensburg High School as an honor student and Shippensburg University. He also served six years in the active Army Reserves and honorably discharged as a staff sergeant during the Vietnam era. His employment, among other endeavors, included several years as a general accountant with the former United Telephone Company of PA, manager with the Commonwealth Telephone Company and thirty years with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. Mr. Polk retired from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission as a Division Chief. His expertise was rate litigation with the Office of Trial Staff and advising the Commission in a myriad of issues and testifying in numerous high profile rate cases.

Mr. Polk, in his earlier years, was an avid hunter and coin collector. He enjoyed his various Mustang 5.0 convertibles and growing Christmas trees, coupled with the Polk family in numerous trips to Wildwood, NJ and Cape May, NJ. These trips are fondly remembered. Mr. Polk was a life member of B.P.O. Elks, and held membership in the VFW and Marine Corps League. Mr. Polk’s life was full and rewarding. May he rest in peace.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Jim Bolick will officiate. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
