Jacoba “Coby” W. den Hartog, 75, of Fayetteville, PA, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 10, 2013 at her home. Born in Zetten, The Netherlands, she was a daughter of the late Gerard and Bertha VanLaar Hofman. Following graduation from nursing school she worked as a registered nurse in Arnhem, Holland. She married Johannis “John” den Hartog on April 11, 1963 and from 1964 – 1999 they operated the former den Hartog Orchard on Hafer Road in Fayetteville. Her husband preceded her in death on July 21, 2000. Coby was a member of Heidelberg Church in Marion where she was a member of the choir and was active with the Sunday School program and Bible Study. She was a former member of Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg where she had served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the choir. Active in the community throughout her lifetime, she was a member of Franklin County Farm Women Group 1 and the American Business Women’s Association. Her hobbies included counted cross-stitch, knitting, reading, and word search puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed attending her grandsons’ sporting events.
She is survived by two daughters, Maggie Cutchall and husband Thomas of Fayetteville and Liz Shoop and husband Larry of Chambersburg; two grandsons, Jacob Cutchall of Fayetteville and Darren Shoop of Chambersburg; and a sister, Ada den Hartog of Newville, PA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ed; and a sister, Betsy.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Heidelberg Church in Marion, PA with Rev. Adam Leeper officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
