Jacqueline L. Picking, 75, of Marion, PA, passed away Friday morning, October 9, 2015 at her home. Born December 20, 1939 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Russell T. and Rhoda G. Walck Miller. Mrs. Picking was a 1957 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Lebanon Valley College. Following graduation from college, she was employed as an elementary school music teacher with the Chambersburg Area School District. She took time away from work to raise her family and later joined the banking industry and was employed as a teller, retiring from M&T Bank. Following her retirement she worked for several years at The Butcher Shoppe and was last employed by the F&M Trust Company at the Penn Hall branch. She was an active member of the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren. She served the church for many years as Director of Music and Worship, choir director, bell choir director, and as a youth counselor. Mrs. Picking was the treasurer of both the Marion Town Committee and the Marion Volunteer Fire Company for many years. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, James B. Picking, whom she married August 6, 1961; her daughter, Joan M. Fortney and husband Dennis of Hagerstown, MD; her son James E. Picking and wife Michelle of Marion; and two grandchildren, Emily Fortney and Jacob Picking.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren. Rev. Daniel House, Rev. Darlene Stouffer, and Rev. Harold Yeager will officiate. Friends will be received immediately following the service. Private interment will be at Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
