James “Jim” Baker, age 68, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Hershey Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Eugene R. and Mabel Pollard Baker.
Jim was a 1973 graduate of CASHS and a 1977 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in environmental science. Jim worked for the former Nassaux and Hemsley in Chambersburg and lastly for the state of PA, where he retired after 27 years. Jim was a member of King Street Church, the Chambersburg YMCA, and a board member of Cacapon and Lost River Land Trust in WV and of the Seldom Seen Hunting Club in WV. An avid outdoorsman and passionate conservationist, Jim loved hunting, fishing, vegetable gardening, and caring for his property. Jim was very adventurous enjoying hiking, sailing, and traveling.
Jim was the last of his immediate family, survived only by his loving wife of 17 years, Cynthia A. Haden Baker and Numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 7 PM in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Ron Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
