James Bert

November 18, 1934 — September 11, 2017

James A. Bert age 82, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away at the Chambersburg Hospital on Monday, September 11, 2017. Born November 18, 1934, in Newburg, PA, he was the son of the late Ezra S. and Carrie Hock Bert.
Mr. Bert was a member of the Chambersburg Brethren In Christ Church. He worked as a route sales driver for Martin’s Potato Rolls for 30 years, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling, attending church functions, and his Men’s Bible study group.
Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Norma Ruth Oldham Bert, whom he married on January 1, 1961, one son, Henry A. Bert (wife Joann) of Chambersburg, PA; three grandchildren, Heather Hipsley (husband Andrew) of Chambersburg, PA, Courtney Bert of St. Thomas, PA, and Sarah Bert of Chambersburg, PA; two great-grandchildren, Astrid and Andrew Hipsley; and four siblings, Annie Grove, Mary Schultz, Grace Nye, and Alvin Bert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Chester S. Bert, three sisters, and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at 11 AM at the Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church, 465 Center St., Chambersburg, PA 17201, where Pastor Kevin Witter will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, from 7-9 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the above church and address. Interment will follow in Air Hill Cemetery.
