James M. “Jim” Booher, age 72, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 30, 2011; after his courageous battle with Cancer. Born September 26, 1939, he was the son of Fred and Annie Booher.
Jim was a 1957 graduate of Southern Huntington High School and attended California Teachers College, majoring in Industrial Arts. Jim served his country honorably from 1961-1965 in the U.S. Navy, then continuing his service as an Industrial Engineer at Letterkenny Army Depot for 44 years, until his retirement in January 2006. In addition, Jim taught electronics at the Franklin County Career and Technology Center for 28 years, and worked as a Real Estate agent since 1984. He also taught “God’s Special One’s” Sunday School at the Open Door Church since 1989; and was a Lt. CDR of the U.S Naval Sea Cadets, Sea Devil Division from 1991-1996. Jim enjoyed leather carving, carpentry, and square dancing as well as reading, studying, and teaching the Bible. He had special pride in building his own home. Jim was a member of the Open Door Church since 1974 and a member of the Upper Strasburg Senior Center. Jim was the “Caller” at the Falling Spring Nursing Home for square dancing, a title he has had since 2004. Jim enjoyed traveling all over the world, as he has done throughout his career, but above all he was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished Pappy, as he was affectionately called by “his boys”.
In addition to his parents, Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, JoAnn Steiner Booher; three children, Joelle Zack (Bill) of New Cumberland, PA; Jonathan Booher (Laura Springer) of Chambersburg, PA; Jayna Booher (Shawn Hassler) of Chambersburg, PA; six grandchildren, Derek, Amanda, Daniel (Nancy), Corianne, Bruce, and Tao; one great-grandson, Ace; and three siblings, Edward Booher (Kathy), Pamela Crowe (Steve), and Darlene Konapasek (John). He was preceded in death by a son, James, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 2 PM at the Open Door Church, 600 Miller St., Chambersburg, PA; with Pastor Mike Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the above church and address. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA.
