James “Jim” Richard Clever, age 65, of Ft. Loudon, PA, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab Center. Born in Chambersburg, PA on February 25, 1952, he is the son of Betty Hollenshead Clever and the late Richard G. Clever of St. Thomas, PA.
A 1970 graduate of the James Buchanan High School, Jim went on the study at Penn State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor degree in Biology in 1975. Jim worked in grocery retail owning and operating Valley Market and Carlton Heights Markets for numerous years. He was currently working as a clerk for the United States Postal Service, where he had been employed for the last 6 years. Passionate about the care of animals, especially whippets, Jim was a member of AKC and various whippet groups; he also owned and operated, Stoneledge Whippets in Ft. Loudon, PA for over 25 years. Jim also loved working with flowers, especially Orchids, Amaryllis, and Bonsai.
In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his husband, William “Bill” Funk, whom he married on August 22, 2014, two step-children, Jason D. Funk of Camp Hill, PA and Thomas M. Funk of Ft. Loudon, PA; five grandchildren; and two siblings, Joseph R. Clever (wife Theresa) of Lancaster, PA and Jared L. Clever (husband Kerne Matsubara) of San Francisco, CA. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, John N. Clever.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 22, 2017, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17202. Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Whippet Rescue Placement, Inc., c/o Jean Schroeder, 17502 South 750 W., Wanatah, IN 46390.
