James Devinney

April 2, 1926 — April 24, 2015

James Michael “Mike” Devinney, age 89, a true gentleman and most recently a resident of Menno Haven, Penn Hall, in Chambersburg, died April 24, 2015. Mike was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey. His beloved wife of 55 years, Janet Wilt Devinney preceded him in death.

A proud member of the Greatest Generation, Mike was a Navy veteran who saw combat action in PT Boats during the Pacific theatre of World War II. He returned from naval service to complete his education at Bucknell University. His record of public service continued past his military service, with a career with the Social Security Administration of the federal government.

Mike was extremely talented with his hands. He enjoying woodworking, boat building, modeling, and carving. He gifted many carvings, models and paintings that are now treasured mementos by all who received them. He and Janet also enjoyed golfing and camping together.

He is survived by three children Dan (and wife Audrey) Devinney of Deer Island, Oregon; Mary Beth (wife of John) Reynolds of Suffolk, Virginia; and Katy (wife of Perry) Stoops of Chambersburg. He has five grandchildren: Ben McGinnis, Betsy Rehfuss, Joe McGinnis, Laura Stoops, and Erin Stoops; and six great-grandchildren: Jack, Annabelle, Riley, Ellie, Curren, and Cara.
A private ceremony will be held for the family.
