James E. Fegan, Sr., age 100, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday morning, August 27, 2023 at Brookview Nursing Center where he resided for the past two years. Born July 5, 1923 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late George E. Fegan, Sr. and Loretta Miller Fegan. Mr. Fegan attended Chambersburg High School and served honorably with the US Army during WWII as a member of the Pennsylvania 28th Infantry Division, known as the Bloody Bucket and was in five major battles including the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed for more than 40 years at the former Dairy Maid in Chambersburg which later became Harrisburg Dairy, retiring as the plant manager. He was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Chambersburg and also held membership in the VFW, American Legion, AMVETS, Elks, and Minnequa club where he and his wife enjoyed dancing several evenings a week. Mr. Fegan was a licensed pilot and loved to fly. His wife of 75 years, Margaret E. “Peggy” Eckels Fegan, whom he married January 6, 1946, preceded him in death on November 9, 2021.
He is survived four children, Nina Fegan and companion Mercedes Nippes, Tauna Brown and husband Ron, James E. Fegan, Jr. and wife Martina, and Mark E. Fegan and wife Nancy, all of Chambersburg; ten grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George E. Fegan, Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Norland Cemetery. Rev. Bruce Levy will officiate.
