James W. Gipe, Jr. age 63, of Chambersburg, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 5, 2012 in his home surrounded by his family. Born August 31, 1948 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late James W. Sr., and Marjorie M. Sarver Gipe.
Prior to the closing of the Scotland School for Veteran’s Children, Jim worked at the school for fifteen years as the Assistant Director of Student Affairs. An avid gun enthusiast and outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was a life member of the Landis-McCleaf Detachment, Marine Corps League, Chambersburg, PA, life member of the Hume McNeal Byers AmVets Post 224, Chambersburg, PA, and the Dietrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion, St. Thomas, PA.
Surviving are his loving wife of 33 years, Joan Boring Gipe, whom he married on August 31, 1978; his children, Tina Johnson of Edenville, PA, Leisa Morris-Curtis (Harold) of Chambersburg, PA, Sherry Carbaugh (Donnie) of Mercersburg, PA, Jamie Gipe (Pholy) of FL, Rebecca Parente of FL, Kevin Gipe of FL, and Jason Gipe of FL; eleven grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Jessica, Dominick, Amber, Megan, Logan, Lua, Vincent, John, and Kayla; one great-granddaughter, Cayden; and three siblings, Linda Gipe, Pat Wagaman, and Jon Gipe.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 9:30 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; with Rev. Laura Mannili officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 from 5-8 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Thursday. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his name to the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania, PO Box 573, Camp Hill, PA 17001 or to the Franklin Learning Center, 2397 Loop Rd., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
