James A. “Jim” Houston, Jr., 91, of Chambersburg, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Inn at Luther Ridge. Born August 26, 1924 in Washington D.C., he was son of the late James A. and Ruby M. Miller Houston. His beloved wife C. Christine Houston, preceded him in death on March 24, 2006.
Jim served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 – 1948 and was a D-Day veteran. Following his service, he was employed at Sealtest Dairy from 1950 – 1970 then was the owner /operator of the BP Station in Damascus MD for ten years. He retired in 1986 as the maintenance supervisor at Montgomery Village. Jim was a member of Birmingham Lodge No. 188 F&AM. He was active in and enjoyed restoring antique clocks and was also an active deer hunter until last year.
He is survived by two children, (MAJ Ret.) James A. Houston III of Senoia, GA, and Linda C. Magaha of Gaithersburg, MD; three grandchildren, James A. Houston, IV, Mary E. Moore, and April M. Black, eight great-grandchildren, Daniel, Steven, Patrick, Kaitlyn, Jade, Andy, James V, and Cyrus, as well as his extended Alaskan family, Caitlin and Ryland; and one great great-grandchild, Hailey. In addition to his parents and wife, Jim is preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude H. Steinert.
Services and interment will be private and under the direction of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
