James R. “Jim” Menter, age 89, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, July 30, 2018. Born May 22, 1929, in Keene, NH, he was the son of the late Leon D. and Hazel Olmsted Menter.
A U.S. Army veteran, Jim served honorably during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Conflict. After Retiring from the military he worked for Guyer’s Lumber and later as a greens keeper at Rocky Spring Golf Course for the last 26 years, where he was still employed. He was a life time member of the Chambersburg Club, and a former member the VFW Post 1599, American Legion Post 46, and the Marine Corps League. He enjoyed golf, tinkering in his shop, spending time with family, mowing grass, and woodworking in his younger years.
Surviving is a sister, Virginia “Ginny” Dow, three Godchildren- Michele Armstrong of Virginia, Kristen Pelka of Pennsylvania, LeeAnn Hammell of New Jersey and numerous cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean A. Menter in 1998.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at 10 AM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333, Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Murray B. Stevens will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 3, 2018, from 6-8 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
