James H. Mock, age 88, of Chambersburg, PA passed away at Providence Place Retirement Community on Sunday, April 7, 2013. Born March, 13, 1925 in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel James and Dolly Harbaugh Mock.
A World War II veteran, Jim served honorably in the US Navy. He worked as a machinist at Mack Truck until his retirement in 1992. Jim enjoyed reading, the outdoors, gardening, traveling, and history.
Surviving is his wife of 14 years, Blanche D. Thompson Mock, whom he married on May 30, 1998; two daughters, Sally Mudd (and husband Michael) of Bryantown, MD, and Kathy Collins (and husband Jack) of Montgomery Village, MD; two step-children, Vanessa Stepler (and husband Jeffrey Sr.) of Chambersburg, and Dean E. Thompson Jr. (and wife Bonnie) of Chambersburg; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one step-grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Withers Mock; two sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Dr. Dianne Salter will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 Honor Guard.
