James A. Stoner, 66, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018 at his home. Born April 26, 1952 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Edgar Jay and Gladys Mae Flory Stoner.
Jim was employed as a toll collector with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission for 32 years until his retirement. He was a member and Elder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Chambersburg 1st Ward. He loved bluegrass music and was a member of various bluegrass bands in the area. He also served with Scotland Youth League, as a Cub Scout Leader, and as a Franklin County Republican Committee Person, and Judge of Elections.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Penny W. Fields Stoner, whom he married on July 11, 1974; three children, Dustin James Stoner (wife Katherine) of Williamsport, Daniel James Stoner (wife Kayla) of Chambersburg, and Rebecca Akaka (husband Godfrey) of Honolulu, HI; three grandchildren, Nolan, Abram and Kalea; eleven brothers and sisters; and one half-sister.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, September 7, 2018 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Bishop Dean Orr will officiate. Interment will be private.
