James C. Umbrell

James C. Umbrell, 82, of Chambersburg, passed away at Chambersburg Hospital, Saturday February 15, 2025. He was born on May 15, 1942 to the late Clyde Umbrell and Iva “Peg (Miller) Umbrell.

He was a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School in 1961, served in the U.S. Navy, was a member of Christian Bible Fellowship in Newville, PA, and was a lifetime member of the Franklin Fire Company. He was employed as the Director of Council 89 for the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. He was an avid family man.

He is survived by wife Diana Umbrell of Chambersburg, PA; son Troy Umbrell and his wife Judy of Chambersburg, PA; daughter Tammy Umbrell and her significant other Eric Kauffman of Chambersburg, PA; daughter Tiffani Umbrell of Mt. Holly, PA; stepson Ben Gumont and his wife Andrea of Warren, OH; grandchildren Colton Umbrell, Jessica Umbrell, Tyler Appleby, Trevor Appleby, Colby Perry, Tucker Woodring, Kye Taylor, Allie Gumont, and Emma Gumont; and 15 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters JoAnn Small and Peggy Roberts.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday February 22, 2025, at 10:00 am in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, with Pastor Joey Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday February 21, 2025, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and one hour prior to the service on Saturday from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. Interment will follow the service on Saturday at Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg, PA where military honors will be rendered by members of the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard.
