James White

James R. White, 79, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 26, 1938, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late James M. and Mildred Pfeifle White.

Jim was a 1956 graduate of Hampton High School in Allison Park, PA. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Geology from Penn State University in 1961. Following his graduation, Jim served honorably in the US Army until 1963. He returned to Penn State to earn his Master’s degree in Geology in 1966. He was employed first with Phillips Petroleum then the Federal Bureau of Mines until it split to become the US Department of Energy, from which he retired in 1993 after 22 years of service. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg and the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599. His passion was all things Penn State and Penn State Football. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and carving decoys, shore birds and folk art.

Jim is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathleen Bonfadini White, whom he married on March 29, 1980; two sisters, Patricia Barbour and husband Charles of Fredericksburg, VA and Joanne Horne and husband Roy of Baden, PA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many more great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-niece, Madison Kathleen Will.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 2, 2017 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and cremation center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Scott Bowerman will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chambersburg Hospital, Summit Palliative Care, 112 N. Seventh St. Chambersburg, PA 17201, or to a charity of one’s choice.
