Jane Short

Jane Louise Royce Short of Chambersburg, PA went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Saturday evening, November 19, 2011. Born in Memphis, TN, she was the daughter of the late Howard Thomas and Jane Morrison Royce. Jane graduated from Little Rock High School in Little Rock, AR where she was in the Acappella Choir and the Little Rock Junior Symphony. She attended Texas Women’s University, majoring in music, and was a Princess in the Red Bud Festival Court. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in pipe organ from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR where she was a member of Gamma Phi Sorority and an elected School Personality for her years at OBU. She was in the Musicians Guild, Symphony Orchestra, popular orchestras and the Student Senate. She did graduate work at the University of Arkansas. Jane taught public high school music. She also taught elementary school in Arkansas, Georgia, Montgomery County, MD, Williamsburg, VA, and while living overseas in Germany and the Philippines.

As a military wife, Jane was President of the Officer’s Wives Club at Fort Carson, CO and President of the Women of the Chapel at Fort Rucker, AL. She was a Girl Scout Leader at Fort Rucker, AL, Fort Leavenworth, KS, Colorado Springs, CO, Fort Carson, CO, and Silver Spring, MD. While in Kansas, Arkansas, and Colorado she was Director of Regional Girl Scout camps. Jane was a Teaching Leader for Bible Study Fellowship International in Silver Spring, MD and Colorado Springs, CO. She was an Area Advisor for Bible Study Fellowship International for the states of Colorado, Kansas, and Utah. Then moving east, she held the same position in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and Northern Maryland. She led women’s retreats in Colorado, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church in Chambersburg, PA where she was a Shepherd Leader in the Shepherd Ministry and a member, as well as a teacher of New Life Sunday School Class. She was also on an Advisory Board of Summit Health in Chambersburg.

Jane is survived by her beloved husband, Colonel Frisco W. Short, whom she married in Little Rock, AR. She is also survived by her two cherished children, Sallie Short Culbreth and mate Tim of Hot Springs, AR and Scott Royce Short and mate Laurie of Red Lion, PA; as well as six grandchildren, Anne Culbreth Quinn, Lieutenant Daniel Royce Culbreth and wife Allison Schmohl Culbreth, Christopher Royce Short and wife Merryl, Jennifer Rose Short, April Tyler Price and husband Larry, and Amanda Elaine Tyler. She has four great-grandchildren, Kian Tyler McMahan, Savannah Grace Price, Isabelle Faith Price, and Ethan Short. In addition, she is survived by eleven nieces and nephews, and two cousins.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Clinton F. Bingaman will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Private burial will be at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.
