Janet G. Bumbaugh, 81, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday afternoon, April 6, 2015 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born December 17, 1933 in Needmore, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Ruth Garland. Janet was a 1951 graduate of the former Warfordsburg High School. Upon moving to Chambersburg she was first employed as a secretary at the former H.J. Heinz Company and then worked in the office of District Justice Mabel Shoemaker. During her lifetime she was also employed at Montgomery Ward and the former T & S Menswear in Chambersburg. She was last employed at the Four States Christian Mission Thrift Store, where she worked for many years. Janet was a member of Marion Mennonite Church. She was an active church member most of her life and enjoyed attending Bible Studies and participating with numerous Ladies’ groups at the church. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren and many others for her cooking and baking and especially for her applesauce and strawberry jelly. She had a natural gift for hospitality and her other hobbies included crafts, sewing, gardening, and yard sales.
She is survived by four children, Debbie Alleman and husband Nelson of Lula, GA, Diana Ashway and husband Lloyd of Chambersburg, Sid A. Bumbaugh, Sr. and wife Tammy of Fayetteville, and Lori Long and husband Alan of Chambersburg; nine grandchildren, Roderick, Cherie (husband Jody), Scott (wife April), Becky, Sid, Jr., Krystyn, Andrew (wife Adria), Mallory(husband Corey), and Albert, II; eleven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Light of Harrisburg and Joan Shaw of Warfordsburg. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Garland.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Marion Mennonite Church, 4365 Molly Pitcher Highway, Chambersburg, PA. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday and from 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday at the church.
