Janet Evans

Janet V. Corwell Evans, 91, of Chambersburg, went home to be with her Lord Thursday evening, March 1, 2012 from the Chambersburg Hospital. Born April 23, 1920 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry T. and Zelda V. Shatzley Corwell. A graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Janet was employed at the J. Schoeneman Company in Chambersburg for more than thirty years. She was a member of Second Lutheran Church, the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Friendship Fire Company #3 Auxiliary, and the Jolly 60’s at The Open Door Church, all in Chambersburg. Her husband, Lester E. Evans preceded her in death on June 12, 1980.

She is survived by three children, Ronald E. Evans and wife Carole, Terry L. “Butch” Evans, and Susan A. Henschel and husband Gary, all of Chambersburg; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Hoover of Indiana and Donna Mellott of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Brad Evans; a brother, Tom Corwell; and two sisters, Betty Monn and Mary Beard.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Carl McKee will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
