Janet Faye (Jaymes) Hornbaker, 78, of Shippensburg, PA, passed away Sunday afternoon, August 6, 2017 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born October 9, 1938 in Mt. Union, she was a daughter of the late Melvin M. and Helen Crouse Jaymes. She was a 1956 graduate of the former Orbisonia High School and went on to attend the former Chambersburg Business School. Early in her life she was employed at the former Stanley Company and at Gibble’s. She was licensed as a Certified Nursing Assistant and was employed at the Franklin County Nursing Home and then at the Shook Home. Mrs. Hornbaker was a long-time member of the Chambersburg Baptist Church. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, word puzzles, and reading. While residing at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, she served as Secretary and President of the Resident’s Council. She also enjoyed delivering mail and newspapers throughout the nursing home. Her husband, Russell J. Hornbaker, Sr., whom she married September 26, 1959, preceded her in death on June 30, 1995.
She is survived by five children, Joyce Dyer (Gregg) of New Holland, Russell J. Hornbaker, Jr. (Patsy) of Shippensburg, Robert E. Hornbaker (Debora) of Chambersburg, Patricia A. Golden of Chambersburg, and Charles L. Hornbaker (Rebecca) of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Erma Crouse of Needmore, Nora Beyers of Harrisburg, and Linda Muller of Bethesda, MD; and two brothers, Carl Jaymes of Shade Gap and Allen Jaymes of Mercersburg. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Jean Edwards; and a brother, Richard Jaymes.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, August 11, 2017 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Karen Willis will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
