Jay F. Chronister, 92, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born April 30, 1924 in Adams County, he was a son of the late John C. and Bessie Wetzel Chronister. Mr. Chronister served honorably with the US Army during WWII and later retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg. He was an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served in any capacity that he was asked. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and old western movies. His wife, Ruth Ott Chronister, whom he married April 12, 1944, preceded him in death on June 12, 2014.
He is survived by his son, Jay R. (Avis) Chronister of Chambersburg; his daughter, Linda M. (the late John) Johnson of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Tanya and Shawn Johnson; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna, Josephine, and Kathryn; and three brothers, Carl, Kenneth, and John.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 21, 2017 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Jane Nicholson will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
