Jay Plank

Jay Donald Plank, 78, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Thursday evening, August 16, 2012 at his home. Born January 19, 1934 in Blairs Mills he was a son of the late Ira D. and Nellie Massey Plank. A US Army veteran, Jay worked as a mechanic at several area garages including the former Atlantic Station, Martin’s Texaco, Paul M. Byers, Inc., Gayman Chevrolet, and Eastland Motors where he was the first person to build a Dune Buggy in Franklin County. He was later employed at Letterkenny Army Depot where he worked as an electrician for twenty years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 842 and Hume, McNeil, Byers AMVETS Post 224, and a life member of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, and the Marine Corps League, all in Chambersburg. He liked working on vehicles of all kinds and enjoyed camping with his family, hunting, sitting on the porch watching deer, and just spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Green Plank, whom he married September 15, 1956; his daughter, Pamela Shuff; two sons, Donald Plank and wife Darcy and Terry Plank and wife Kim; six grandchildren, Stacey Shuff, Tyler Shuff, Andrew Plank, Allison Plank, Jacob Plank, and Connor Plank; and four great-granddaughters, Ashlyn Juray, Sadee Shuff, Mialyn Ward-Shuff, and Averee Shuff, all of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Rush Campbell; and two brothers, Johnny and Eugene Plank, both of Blairs Mills, PA.

Funeral services will held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 20, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Roy Fahnestock will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
