Mr. Jay Walter Stoner, 81, of Chambersburg, PA passed the morning of Wednesday, December 16, 2020 in Laurel Lakes Nursing Home, Chambersburg. Born May 22, 1939 in Mercersburg, PA he was the son of the late John Wilbur and Carrie Amanda (Rosenberry) Stoner.
Jay was a 1958 graduate of James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg. Following the death of his father, J.W. Stoner on the same date in 1969, Jay along with his mother and five brothers formed a dairy farm corporation; Stoner’s Hijos (sons) Hill Inc., Mercersburg. Jay also worked with Roy Meyers as a feed grinder going farm to farm for two years.
Active on the farm from a very early age, Jay was stricken with a severe case of the whooping cough at the age of 3. He received the Master Farmer award in 1976; Stoner’s Hijos Hill Inc. received the Business of the Year Award from the Mercersburg Area Chamber of Commerce in 2006, and in the same years received the FCADC Small Business of the year award. In 2011, the farm was honored for their 50-yeas membership in the Maryland & Virginia Milk Production Cooperative.
Jay was also a member of the PA Farmers Association, 4-H Pig club, 4-H Dairy Club, played soccer and track and field (shot put) for James Buchanan High School, played soccer for the town team, Senior Extension, member of the Glee Club, former member of the choir Lemaster Lutheran Church, and a Red Cross blood donor (16 pints). He was also an avid Penn State Football fan and a Baltimore Orioles fan.
Jay was a member of King Street United U.B. Church where he was a former greeter and offering collector as well as treasurer of the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Nancy D. (Wilson) Stoner were married July 24, 1965 in the King Street Church; two sons, Brian J. Stoner and his wife Lori (Swope) and Terry L. Stoner both of Chambersburg; a sister, Pat Dent of Chambersburg; four brothers, John R. Stoner (Beth) of Chambersburg, David D. Stoner (Patty) of Mercersburg, William A. Stoner (Shirley) of Chambersburg, and Herbert L. Stoner (Peggy) of St. Thomas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers R. Gene Stoner (Nell) and Robert H. Stoner (Sue).
Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M., Monday, December 21, 2020 in Lincoln Cemetery 990 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17201 with Pastor Ron Cook officiating.
