Jean Alice Bankes, 89, of Chambersburg went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 23, 2014 with members of her family present. She was born on December 22, 1924 in Bloomsburg, PA to the late Clarence & Leona Dawson.
Jean was an electronics worker at Letterkenny Army Depot for the Nike Hercules Missile System. She retired in 1988. Jean and her husband, Donald, traveled to Israel seven times, Kenya twice, along with trips to Mexico, Jamaica, and Europe. Many of these trips were mission trips. She was a faithful volunteer Bible teacher for the Released Time Bible Program. She was a member of the J.O.Y. Chorale, a senior choir.
Surviving are her 4 children: daughter, Sue C. Shaffer of Titusville, PA; son, Rodney J. Bankes and wife Patricia of Kennett Square, PA; son, Randy S. Bankes and his wife Lu B. of Greencastle, PA; and daughter, Melanie D. and her husband, Jay H. Bogle of Chambersburg; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Jean had many brothers & sisters, most of whom have preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Bankes, whom she married on March 2, 1947 and a son-in-law, Garold Shaffer.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Ky C. Searcy, Pastor of Congregational Life, from the Antrim Brethren in Christ Church officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
