Jean R. Bender, 82, a resident of Penn Hall Nursing Center, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Born on July 20, 1930 in Orrstown, she was a daughter of the late David A. and A. Minerva Wenger Bender. Jean was a member of King Street United Brethren Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and also faithfully served in the Pastoral Care Ministry by visiting shut-ins. She loved horses and was an avid fan of Gene Autry. Jean retired from the Stanley Company after 41 years of service.
The last of her immediate family, Jean is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents, Jean is preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth H. Bender; and 4 half-sisters, Helen Martin, Ruth Warren, Catherine Sprenkle, and Erma Mansberger.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 2:00 PM. Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. The family would like to thank the staff of Penn Hall Nursing Center for their excellent and compassionate care.
